Additional information

Research area

The Innovation Center Virtual Reality (ICVR) is headed by Andreas Kunz, and actively researches and implements VR- and MR-systems which strongly focus on the user and his applications.

The application field of such systems covers the complete product development process, industrial business processes, as well as the additional research field of the "Digital Factory"

After finishing his studies in electrical sciences at the Technical University Darmstadt, Andreas Kunz was responsible for research and development at Texscan GmbH in Germany. In 1994, he joined the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich as a PhD student. After finishing his PhD in 1998, he established the research field ‘Virtual Reality’ (VR) at ETH Zurich and finished his habilitation on the topic ‘Interaktion mit dem digitalen Produktmodell im virtuellen Raum’ in 2004. Today, Andreas Kunz is heading the research group ‘ICVR’ (Innovation Center Virtual Reality) at ETH Zurich. His research interests are in the development of user-centered VR-systems for industrial business processes. In particular, his research group works on visualization and collaboration systems, haptic interfaces, human computer interfaces (HCI), as well as on corresponding software. All systems are tested and further developed in research and education, as well as in a close collaboration with industry. Besides regular publishing in journals and on conferences, the ICVR group is also responsible for student education at ETH Zurich in the field of virtual reality.
