They transport medication inside the body or perform surgery: micro-robots could soon revolutionize medicine. An article in “20 Minutes”.

The research project “Mesh Mould” was selected as one of the three finalists of the year`s Swiss Technology Award in the category “Inventors”.

Franziska Ortner and Prof. Marco Mazzotti received the Best Poster Award for their poster “Two-Phase Flow in Chromatographic Processes – Experimental and Theoretical Analysis”. The prize was awarded at the 16th International Symposium on Preparative and Industrial Chromatography and Allied Techniques, held in Vienna, Austria from 9 to 12 October 2016.

In the near future, gliding underwater robots like the “Nanins”, designed and developed at the lab of Prof. Roland Siegwart, could go deep underwater to collect water quality data with minimal energy use. The data from onboard sensors enables water pollution to be determined and addressed efficiently. Stefan Bertschi and Raghav Khanna visited India with the Nanins to conduct a workshop on underwater gliding for water quality monitoring.

Prof. Sotiris E. Pratsinis gave the Diels-Planck-Lecture in the research field “Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface (KiNSIS)” on 6 October 2016 at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, Germany. He received this award for the successful transfer of the latest nano-fundamental research to medical applications.

VariLeg – a walking robot for paraplegics, developed within a Focus Project led by Prof. Mirko Meboldt and Prof. Roger Gasser, will participate in the Cybathlon on Saturday, 8 October 2016. The Cybathlon is a championship for athletes with disabilities, who compete against one another using the latest assistive technologies, to overcome the challenges of everyday life.
