More time for study and research
Michelle Rüegg studies mechanical engineering and explains why the recognition of her achievements through a scholarship of the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme was a boost for her self-confidence.
Michelle Rüegg, a Master's student in mechanical engineering, can concentrate fully on her research in the field of biomedical engineering. This is made possible by the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP). The program of the ETH Zurich Foundation provides support for 50 students wishing to pursue their Master`s degree who are among the most talented 2–3 per cent of their year. Every year, the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering nominates about eight top students for the ESOP selection process. The Excellence Scholars receive a full scholarship to cover the costs of study and living expenses during the entire Master’s program.
More than 800 applications
Each year, more than 800 students apply for the ESOP. Their applications are rigorously evaluated by a central committee, and the most promising candidates are invited for personal interviews. The final decision on scholarship awards is made by ETH Rector Sarah Springman.
