ETH Zurich launched the Sustainability Council earlier this year. The new body will advise the Executive Board on key issues related to sustainable development – such as the strategic direction of ETH, the role of universities in the context of global sustainability goals, and international developments related to sustainability.

With the election of seven professors from different departments as well as representatives from ETH’s stakeholder groups, the council is interdisciplinary
and broadly based. In addition to André Bardow, the following professors were elected to the council: Thomas Bernauer (D-GESS), David Bresch (D-USYS), Stefano Brusoni (D-MTEC), Gabriela Hug (D-ITET), Laura Nyström (D-HEST), and Arno Schlüter (D-ARCH).

The Sustainability Council will hold its first meeting on 3 October 2025.
