SARA
Project
Despite significant advances in prosthetics and robotics, upper-body prostheses are often perceived as too heavy. The goal of the "SARA" focus project is to design a lightweight and flexible robotic arm that can be further developed into a prosthesis. Instead of conventional actuators, students are using a new technology from bio-inspired robotics that mimics the functionality of human muscles. These actuators consist of fluids in thin plastic films that convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. By integrating these artificial muscles, the arm prosthesis is expected to be lighter and more mobile.
