Projects for children and teens
We want to inspire children and young people to pursue STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and introduce them to this field with practical projects. These experiences will help them later in their career choices.
Throughout Switzerland we offer:
- Projects for teaching in schools
- Project weeks for schools at D-MAVT (ETH Zurich)
- Other projects, such as Zukunftstag
Our project partner is external page mint & pepper, an initiative that promotes young STEM researchers at Wyss Zurich (ETH Zurich and University of Zurich), and that was developed at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering. MINT is the German equivalent of STEM.
The teenagers (aged 16 to 19) develop and program their own gripper for an exoskeleton. It's their very own project from the initial idea to the prototype and the finished product. At the end, they put their own programmed creations to the test in a competition - just like at the real CYBATHLON.
The children, aged 7 to 9, craft and program their own game in which the Thymio robot becomes an alien with a toothache. They get into programming and robotics from scratch. external page Learn more
In this workshop, children and young people aged 10 and upwards find out about robotics problems and how to solve them in a playful way, assisted by a simple robot and a choice of either a graphical or text-based programming language (external page Thymio-Website). The level of difficulty and duration of the courses is adapted to the group.
Over four to five days, students aged 16 to 19 years apply their school knowledge to a project. In the process, they get an impression of the work of engineers. The project weeks are led by students and research assistants. An inventive spirit and perseverance are vital here!
Naníns are diving robots with an innovative drive that is inspired by nature. This week is all about developing and evaluating solutions for the movement of machines in and under water – by means of simulation, models, prototype tests and real-life applications. external page Video
In the CYBATHLON @school camps, children and teenagers immerse themselves in the world of robotics, medicine and product development. They learn about the function of an exoskeleton, working with laser cutters, designing and programming. They complete an "obstacle course" with a prosthetic leg, a blindfold or in a wheelchair. At the end, they demonstrate their own finished prototype.
