Team VIEshunt in Gothenburg

In 2021, the team had begun work on the VIEshunt focus project, embedded in the groups of Professor Melanie Zeilinger, Marianne Schmid Daners and Professor Mirko Meboldt. They took on the challenge of bringing the therapy of hydrocephalus into the 21st century. The team of mechanical and electrical engineering students, together with researchers from the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control, the Product Development Group Zurich, the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich, developed and tested the prototype of an intelligent shunt system.

Award dedicated to Janina Hug

The team has dedicated the win to Janina Hug, a mechanical engineering student who was part of the VIEshunt team. Janina passed away on 2 September 2022 following a tragic accident. Her contribution to this project could one day help others in need and improve the lives of countless hydrocephalus patients.
